Question: Who came in 2nd place in the Republican primary in 2004? I can't remember anybody running against Bush in that election. Please post the link if you find the answer.

My memory is that there was no national figure that filed against Bush in 2004 (like there was no national figure that filed against Clinton in 1996). I am sure that in individual states there were local candidates who filed in the Republican Primary, but none who got enough votes to earn delegates or gain any national attention.
Looking at my home state, I see two candidates (neither of the names strike any bells) that filed against Bush. When you combine their votes with uncommited, the total votes against Bush would have been about 5%.
